Dear Shareholder,

Welcome to our new website which I hope will encourage you to get involved with Southern Locomotives.

Since the inception of the Port Line Locomotive Project in 1983 and its successor, Southern Locomotives Ltd, we have restored a Barry wreck on average every four years, along with the occasional overhaul. This has been accomplished with a very small team but a very large and loyal group of shareholders. Hopefully, if not already one, you will consider joining us as we still have a considerable amount of work to do, and money to raise, to fulfil our objectives.

We will be finishing our seventh Barry rebuild in 2011 in the form of 34053 Sir Keith Park to be followed by the overhaul of 34072 257 Squadron which will involve the building of a new tender (the third we will have built from scratch) and hopefully a serious start to the restoration of our last locomotive 34010 Sidmouth. Without shareholder support this cannot happen.

Some will wonder why we are restoring another rebuilt Pacific. The same question was asked in 1983 when the rebuilding of 35027 Port Line was in full swing, but there still seems to be no shortage of railways who would very much like our ‘duplicated’ locomotives!

We have always treated our shareholders on an equal footing whether buying one share or a hundred, or whether they physically help or are armchair supporters (as most are). Everyone has the opportunity of having a drive and fire once a year and to help restore the locomotives if they wish.

If you do decide to join us you will have a real sense of Ownership and can get as involved as you like; we are not a ‘closed shop’ and we really appreciate your help.

Please do not hesitate to email me if you would like any further information.
