80078 – Preservation Service

First Train

On Sunday, 7th November 1999, 80078 hauled its first trains in preservation. It had last worked a train some 34 years earlier. It double-headed the service trains with M7 class, 30053. 80078 was the 84th locomotive to leave Barry scrapyard and is the 99th Barry Locomotive to be returned to steam.

Avon Valley Railway

80078 was loaned to the Avon Valley Railway for 3 months as a gesture for their help in its restoration, particularly the manufacture of the side tanks.
