This was an exceptional run. The crew had lost 2 min on schedule to Clapham due to a slow start and signal checks before Clapham Junction but
then ran in fine style for the remainder of the run. A top speed of 80 mph was unusual. The New Malden to West Byfleet time was, by
about 14 sec, the fastest I recorded in the 100 runs I timed on this train in 1964-65.
